About this Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F list

Header: Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F (2018, BRAVIA_ATV3_4K, MediaTek MT5891), US/Canada firmware

Product BRAVIA_ATV3_4K_UC, model string "BRAVIA 4K GB ATV3". Android TV 9 (API 28), 2 GB RAM. Firmware BRAVIA_ATV3_4K_UC-user 9 PTT1.190515.001.S54 672201 release-keys, security patch 2022-01-05 Applied 2026-10-19 and checked across a reboot (list still disabled, launcher still Home, HDMI and Live TV fine). Not lived with for weeks yet: re-enable anything that breaks with `pm enable <package>`. Same Android 9 firmware build as examples/sony-xbr-x900e and sony-bravia-4k-gb (ATV2), one platform generation newer (ATV3, MT5891). Package set is the same apart from the ATV3 panel/HDMI services. Stock launcher: com.google.android.tvlauncher (restore.sh's default). Live TV / input app: com.sony.dtv.tvx. Keep it: it also plays every HDMI input and the ATSC tuner. Keep: com.sony.dtv.tvinput.*, braviasync* (HDMI-CEC), remotepairing, rcpowerkey, uinputservice, imeproxy, sonysystemservice, settingsprovider, all com.mediatek.* and mtktvapi.agent, timers. Already off on this TV before the list (owner or factory): tv.samba.ssm and com.sony.dtv.promos (both listed below anyway), com.sony.rvu, actionmenu.plugin.harmony, Vudu, Play Movies, Play Games. Notes from this firmware: - ADB: Developer options > USB debugging opens port 5555 (Android 9: no Wireless debugging pairing); the TV then shows the usual "Allow USB debugging?" prompt. Tick "Always allow". - The sponsored banner at the top of the stock home (Hulu, Apple TV+ promos) comes from com.google.android.tvlauncher itself and survives disabling tvrecommendations; only replacing the launcher removes it. - Sony Settings pages (About, Status) return an empty screencap; read them with `uiautomator dump`. - The retail model number is not in getprop or UPnP (both say "BRAVIA 4K GB ATV3"); read it off the sticker or the Help app. - Launcher works. Same as the X900E: the stock launcher's HOME filter wins until com.google.android.tvlauncher is disabled; disable it, then `cmd package set-home-activity com.gathin.tvhome/.MainActivity`. Home key from inside apps returns to the new launcher. - Inputs works: HDMI 1-4 (HDMI 3/ARC), Video and Live TV listed via com.sony.dtv.tvx. This firmware reports real per-port status ("No device" / "Connected"), not every port as connected. config.xml: hidden_apps com.sony.dtv.tvx and com.sony.dtv.tvxlauncher.programguide, live_tv_package com.sony.dtv.tvx.

Before you run it: every package below is disabled, not uninstalled. Comment out (prefix with #) any line for an app you use. Never disable the Play Store, Play Services, the on-screen keyboard or the TV input services that play HDMI. Switch USB debugging off when you are done.

Apply the Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F debloat

Turn on Developer options on the TV (Settings → Device Preferences → About → press OK on Build seven times), switch on USB debugging and, if shown, Network or ADB debugging. Then, from a clone of the cleanyourtv repository on a computer on the same Wi-Fi:

export TV_HOST=192.168.1.50   # your TV's IP address
tools/venv/bin/python -I tools/tv.py --probe
tools/disable.sh examples/sony-xbr-65x900f/debloat.txt

Then build and install the clean launcher, which makes itself the default Home and rolls back if it fails:

TV_HOST=192.168.1.50 launcher/build-and-install.sh

Prefer to let an assistant do it? Paste the cleanyourtv prompt into Claude Code with "Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F" as the model; it reads this list, checks each package on your TV and asks before anything that depends on your preferences.

Restore the Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F

TV_HOST=192.168.1.50 tools/restore.sh examples/sony-xbr-65x900f/debloat.txt

The restore script replays the state recorded before the change, so Home goes back to the launcher that owned it. More in the restore guide and the Android TV debloat guide.

Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F debloat FAQ

Is it safe to debloat the Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F?

The Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F list only uses pm disable-user, so nothing is uninstalled or flashed. Every package can be turned back on with the cleanyourtv restore script or from the TV's own Settings → Apps page. Apply it in small batches and check the TV between them.

30 packages, grouped as: ACR viewing tracker; Sony and Google content, ads and promos; Retail demo; Telemetry, remote support and feedback and more. Comment out any line you want to keep before running it.

Does the Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F list work on a similar model?

Often, if the platform matches. Compare the device codename and firmware in the list header with Settings → About on your TV. The cleanyourtv prompt also checks each package on your own set before touching it, so a near match is a good starting point.

Will the Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F get the Apple TV-style launcher?

Yes. After debloating, cleanyourtv builds its small native launcher (about 300 KB) and makes it the default Home, rolling back automatically if Home does not land on it.

How do I undo the Sony BRAVIA XBR-65X900F debloat?

Run TV_HOST=<tv ip> tools/restore.sh examples/sony-xbr-65x900f/debloat.txt. It replays the record saved before the change. Full steps are in the restore guide.
